Over the last 10 years I have seen and worked on 1.000s of pitch decks and talked with hundreds of investors — and here’s what I have learnt

First of, you need to understand the concept of a pitch — and understand it as a conversation starter (see more here). This is very much essential.

Now you need to understand the intent of an investor, be it a business angel or a VC. And that is plainly spoken to make money. With investing money in others peoples’ companies and making good returns — this is their business model. At the same time they are aware that a lot of their investments won’t work — so they are always looking for investments, or rather bets (as they are often referred to) that are able to balance several bad bets with one good one.

Next we need to understand the mentality of investors. They are usually very structured in their mindset and have a clear investment thesis — after all its a numbers game…
